Meaning: 6 Complete protection against dust particles
Meaning: 7 Protection against temporary immersion in water

What is an IP certification?

“IP” stands for Ingress Protection Rating. This classification makes it easier to understand how well electronic products, such as smartwatches, smartphones, and LED lighting, are protected against external influences, such as water and dust. The IP code consists of two digits that indicate the product’s level of protection.

Is IP67 dust-resistant?

Looking for a device that lets you navigate through dust and rain without worry? Then choose a device with at least an IP67 certification. With an IP67 product, you’re guaranteed full protection against dust and water. These products, also known as “underwater products,” can remain submerged to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. In addition, more and more products are available that offer even higher water resistance.

Is IP67 waterproof?

Yes, products with an IP67 rating are waterproof. This rating guarantees that the product is completely dustproof and can be submerged in water to a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes.

  • The first digit (6) means that the product is completely dust-tight, so it is protected against dust, dirt, tools, and contact. The higher the number (on a scale of 1 to 6), the better the protection.
  • The second digit (7) indicates protection against moisture. The higher the number (on a scale of 1 to 8), the better the protection against water.

With an IP67 certification, you can be sure that the product is both dust- and water-resistant.

Most Common IP Ratings

Common IP ratings include IP65 and IP67. Enclosures with these classifications are resistant to water jets, such as those from a garden hose. The highest protection rating is IP68, which means the product is pressure-waterproof and suitable for use underwater.

IP69K offers maximum protection against dust and can withstand extreme conditions, such as high temperatures and high water pressure. This makes products with IP69K certification ideal for use in environments where equipment must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
